The Earl Wentz Projects

-Priorities-

Your contributions will help us achieve these goals for the coming 12 months.

Our overall immediate focus is on cataloguing and refining, selecting and marketing, and getting the name and music of Earl Wentz on the boards in key venues through publishing and performance.

Here's how we plan to get there:

1Create a database of all musical works of Earl Wentz

This will allow quick understanding of:

bullet

what works exist

bullet

their style

bullet

the number and type of voices and instruments needed

bullet

performance data

bullet

information on each piece’s status
bullet

format

bullet

submission history

bullet

next steps

With funds in hand, this can be accomplished in 18 weeks time and is a critical step towards not only preserving the music but also towards marketing and managing it for its future life.

2.  Select two larger works and ten choral pieces to move forward first for publication and performance

Pieces that are already in electronic format, have readily identifiable target audiences and marketing strategies, or already have significant interest behind them are the prime candidates.

This will enable us to:

bullet

move more quickly toward our overall goals

bullet

establish Earl Wentz’s name more clearly to a broader audience

bullet

begin to build a revenue stream to help in future endeavors

With funds in hand, the minimum estimated time to begin to position these selected works to move to the next level is 16 weeks.

Among the works most likely to be chosen for the initial push are:

bullet

Concerto for Celesta: Spirits, a composition in three movements; duration 12:33.

Orchestration:  Flute/Piccolo, Oboe, Bassoon, Percussion (one player), Snare Drum, Bell Tree, Timpani (2), Celesta, Solo Violin, Solo Cello, Violins I, Violins II, Violas, Cellos, Double Basses

Initial Requirements include review by Finale music notation expert, additional dynamic markings, formatting for printing of complete score and parts, printing

bullet

The Amity Suite, a composition comprising 11 pieces for full orchestra.

Initial Requirements include transferring of score of one movement into electronic format, review by Finale music notation expert, additional dynamic markings, formatting for printing of complete score and parts, inputting of narrative material and additional research to complete accompanying narrative, printing

bullet

The John Street Choral Series—Choices are to be determined but may include a selection of introits, responses, and meditations from a list that includes: The Advent of Our God; Crown Him; Lord of the Worlds Above; King of Glory; We Wait in Faith; Hark! A Thrilling Voice is Sounding; The King Shall Come; Sweet Summer Land; The Transfiguration; Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!; The Lord Bless You and Keep You; O Thou, Who By  A Star Didst Guide; Eight-Fold Amen; Four-Fold Amen; Be Thou Our Guide; O Love, How Deep

3.  Update and develop the EarlWentz.com website

This will allow us to:

bullet

build on existing interest in the life and career of Earl Wentz

bullet

provide an easy way to hear music clips

bullet

announce information about performances, recordings, and music availability

This will require purchase of professional website software, the transference of existing data, and the creation of electronic files (such as .mp3) for music clips.

Information from the database discussed in Goal 1 will be useful in the successful achievement of this.

The updated website will be a major component of marketing Earl Wentz’s music in general and will dovetail with Goal 2 as well.

While this will be an ongoing initiative, with funds in hand, the initial design, update, and transfer will take about 8 weeks.

We are about 1/4 of the way through with the completion of this goal.

The EarlWentz.com web site has been completely redesigned in layout, with a new multi-level dropdown menu for easier navigation, and new color schemes, typefaces, and logo. The old left frame area has been deleted to give more room for display of page contents. New pages, including information on Earl Wentz's CDs, have been created. In addition, sound clip functionality has been added to "Composer" pages. A few preliminary sounds clips have been added.

Reformatting of several pages still needs to be done and many photographs may need to be rescanned to improve their appearance. Many pages of performance history need to be completed and the full database and catalogue of Earl's compositions needs to be added following the completion of Goal 1.

But...we're on our way!

Be sure to check out the site at EarlWentz.com. Let us know what you think!
